I've only just started this blog I am learning about the internet, and getting to grips with all the technical aspects of putting up a blog. So I'm not just sharing my Debtfree stories with you, I'm learning new skills at the same time.

Today, I simply wanted to let you know that I am going into hospital tomorrow and I shall be away for 2 weeks.

However, I don't want you to feel as if i've abandoned you, especially as we are just getting to know each other. So I've arranged to have guest authors post to my blog. I know you'll enjoy their posts.

Friend or Foe?

I've got a friend who is stunning to look at, she always looks as if she has just stepped off the front cover of a fashion magazine. She's been my friend for a long while and she is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the out. She is really savvy around money, she's kind and generous and lives a life of abundance.

Recently we were out shopping, and I decided that on this trip I was going to observe her behaviour around money. My goodness, what an eye opener that proved to be. We had such a fun time and I learned loads from her. Ive always admired the way she deals with money, but it had, it never occurred to me to take a moment to see what I could learn. I'm sure glad I did.

Have a look at the list below and let me know if you put into practice any of the ideas listed or have any other great tips.

Only buy items that are of good quality, regardless of the price.
Buy what you need not what you want.
Use coupons and vouchers
Only buy sale items if they really will be a bargain in the long term.
Read the small print on offers
Don't be loyal to brands or supermarkets
Shop all year round for birthdays and other special occasions.
Don't buy food on credit.
Look after the pennies.

So the next time you are out with you friends, take a moment and observe their habits around money and then you can decide if they are friend or foe where debt is concerned.

Debt Free - Nature or Nurture

I was brought up in a loving family, we didn't have much money, but we had loads of love and received a raft of life lessons which have served us well as adults.

My mum is an absolute star; she's raised a houseful of children, her own and others. Mum worked nights, so we wouldn’t have to come home from school to an empty house. One of the things I learned from my mum, was how to make the most of your money. I watched in wonder, as mum made very little go a very long way. Even today, whatever she has, she makes sure it’s divided, so that bills are paid, some is saved, some is given away and some is left for fun.

Thinking about my mum got me wondering. If my life lessons and principles around money were so solid, where did my attitude towards debt come from? When I became an adult, and got into full time employment, my behaviour around money was vastly different from the way I had been raised. For example, I always wanted things immediately, waiting wasn't for me. I didn’t think anything was wrong with racking up huge credit card debts. I loaned money I never had.

It took me years of repeating the pattern of getting into and out of debt before I realised where my attitude had actually come from. One day, I met Heather Allen, author of the DebtFree Playbook and in speaking with her discovered the source of those attitudes. Once I learned what I was doing and why, I was able to make some significant changes with regard to my relationship with money. These changes have made a big difference to my life. As a student of the DebtFree Playbook system, I’ll share with you the lessons I’ve learned and the insights I’ve discovered. I'll tell you about my debt hell and my debt heaven, in the hope that you’ll be inspired to look at your own relationship with money and take action towards being debt free.
